Hello dearest squadmates.

I know today's not exactly a very enjoyable day, nor a relaxing/fun one, but I guess it's kinda meaningful? I mean like, you guys know that our drills aren't as good as they can be, cos we know there are people who don't really take drills seriously. I mean, I know that drills aren't very enjoyable to some of y'all, & the only reason I care about drills so much is that I love drills, cos I think they're super fun, & maybe they aren't for you & stuff, but they're important, in any case. Instead of treatin it like a chore, we can look at it from a more optimistic point of view, like maybe you can think of it as like a fun thing! Or you can think that it's just some time to bond(?) as a squad or spend time with our cute SCs! Okay maybe they're not as cute when they're commanding us cos they're fiercer than Christine & Karyn & Kialin & Jayme, but they are nice people anyway.

Hmm. In case any of y'all didn't know, I was effing away in the band room, & I can freaking promise all of you (can't swear, I'm Christian!) that I was effing away because I was pissed that people keep saying I don't check my phone, even though I do but I just don't necessarily reply cos I have a limited number of free smses & I exceeded last month, earning a long lecture from my mum. So don't misunderstand okay? Jermaine was there, & so was Jiayi, check with them! I promise okay! Anyway, basically my point is, work harder, & to those who are working very hard, keep it up! We can do this okay!

Another thing is that after talking to my senior right, I found out a lot of things. Y'know Kialin commanded the whites, & she wasn't as jokey as she was with us. So they don't really think that they're very fierce, as compared to Kialin. To us, they're really fierce because Christine & Karyn weren't that fierce with us right? We just have to adapt. I think the SCs are really stressed out. At least that's what my senior said. Remember how we made Christine cry because of our drills? We don't want it to happen again right? So let's work harder okay!

Once again I'm here to revive this blog (: POST MORE PLEASE!

Anyway, on to more serious matters. I know (again) that I have no right to order y'all to do stuff, or whatever, so now I'm begging ALL OF YOU to please please please say your timing loudly for drills. I know y'all (probably) don't like to have drills, but think of the squad commanders! They're screaming their lungs out to command us, to make sure we do our drills right. Won't we be disappointing them if we don't say our timing loud enough/not to our drills right? How would you feel if your juniors just mumble their timing, don't lift their feet up 90 degrees, mess up the most basic things? Please please PLEASE put more effort into doing your drills, because aren't drills supposed to train your discipline? Discipline is very important to go far in this society, & if we can't handle a small thing like drills (yes, it's small, compared to the other things in life. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S NOT IMPORTANT!), how do you expect to do well in life? Personally I'm disappointed in some people, whom I know can talk louder than they say timing. Drills are important in training our discipline, & they ARE part of our CCA. You know there's SYF next year right? Apparently we have to take a video of ourselves (meaning the Band) doing drills for SYF. So you know, drills are VERY important. Plus there's PoP this year. I don't think y'all want to embarrass yourselves (like I did for Swearing-in :X) on that day in front of your seniors & JUNIORS.

Speaking of juniors, don't you think it's right for us to set a good example for our juniors? If we don't take drills seriously by saying our timing louder 7 doing them properly, how do expect our juniors to do them well?

What about Kialin & Jayme? They put a lot of effort into teaching us drills, but we're just throwing everything back to them. Doesn't seem right, does it?

So I'm really begging all of you to do drills properly. What's the use of playing well if we don't have enough discipline?

At the same time, I would like y'all to acknowledge who are the people who are good examples in terms of drills.

Sections like ET, Saxes, Percs, Double Reeds, Trumpets, Trombones (minus pathetic me, they're all louder than me).

Of course there are some individuals like Jiaii. I'm only saying those who were near me because I'm not sure about the rest, but if you really were saying your timing loudly, then you should be proud. & if you weren't, I think we should all reflect on ourselves. It's a squad thing, if some people merely mumble timing, it doesn't make sense to do drills at all.

Don't be selfish, just say timing, lift your legs up 90 degrees. You need not scream your timing, just say it normally. It's not like it'll kill you.

No offence to anyone okay?

CCA FAIR 2010! (update2)

hello again :D

It's quite disappointing to have only 15people doing the souvenirs when 39 people are supposed to do it. Anyway, we have around 100+ bookmarks to go and we have 'split up' some work. Thus, the rest of all of you who did not go, please turn up for squad meetings next time! Is 3 hours so difficult to sacrifice? Well, I don't think we have to meet up again, since it's almost done, we'll finish up the rest.
Also, I was thinking of a squad gathering or some what, but as you know, it's quite difficult to plan it since everyone's flying to different parts of the world and to get majority of the squad together is not at all an easy task (just like today :/). So, if we really can't do it this holiday, would june next year be fine? :3
Remember, if you're not going for band, please tell your seniors the reason and pass your excuse letters/MCs to Joan.
Hope all of you are practicing your instruments! It's another 2weeks to the next band practice and you don't want to get scolded, do you?
Another thing is, if you change your numbers, could you inform us? Because you wouldn't receive messages from us, which at times are quite important.

hello, everyone.

Well, like Dorcas said, please practice harder. I encourage you guys to do so as the items we are performing for the CCA fair is not exactly as easy as the pieces we normally play, and we want more band recruits right! so we can have more juniors and boss them around! no lah kidding. but we must play our best, to let the world know that we can play well even with the sec 4s gone! and do them proud! we can do it, as long as we work for it and we believe that we can. Please dont slack lah, since it's the holidays we actually have less of a reason to deprove in our performance, we've got more time to practice our instruments now. if we wanna improve just practise. if you want our syf to get a GWH practice. Even though our band's standard now is that of a GWH's other schools are slowly improving and we continue at this rate they're going to be better than us cause we'll be of the same standard and they're be improving. In fact, since the sec 4s are out and we're now sec 2s bandits, we play an even more important role in band, cause now if there're competitions we'll be taking part. and even in the case of having to audition for the role we still have to try our best, cause if we can play better better quality players will be chosen and a better team will be playing.

SOUVENIR DAY.

PLEASE, everybody do your part, COME when doing the souvenirs and PLEASE, actually help when you get there instead of just standing in the corner not even trying to help. It's a squad effort! So help, it'd be very appreciated. remember the dates( refer to Dorcas' posts)

i personally kinda hate our blog skin now. It's well, kinda confusing when u first get in, and it's very mafan lah, basically.

so, im not sure if i'm the only one with the problem, but i really wanna change the blog skin. it's nice, but it's confusing and gets irritating after awhile.

But then again, I shan't decide for the squad. So, if you wanna change the blogskin please inform me asap. If there really are alot of people who dislike the blogskin now we can change it. of course we'll customize till it's for our squad blahs, but not such mafan ones lah.

CCA FAIR 2010! (update)

We have made some changes to the souvenirs we are making since we cannot meet the budget for some items.

Currently, we have already bought the materials for making the souvenirs.

This is what we are going to do:
1) Bookmarks

Star-shaped (100)
Rectangular-shaped cut out from A4-size paper (100)

-We will put a paperclip instead of a ribbon
-Design our own

2) Cut-out red/blue foam (into music notes/band-related shapes) on top of paperclip

TUESDAY (8 DEC)!

-Please bring some materials:

Colour Pens/Markers
Glue (preferably white glue/pva)
Scissors

-Come punctually at 1pm
-Venue: Canteen
-Discuss about squad outing (if possible)
-Discuss about squad tee :D

THURSDAY (10 DEC)!

-Details will be given on Tuesday

CCA FAIR 2010!

Hello :D

As all of you should know,
For CCA FAIR 2010, this is what we have to do:

Souvenirs

We have to do it as a squad
Need not be complicated
Symbolises the band
Budget: $25
Deadline: Before CCA FAIR

Some ideas that the seniors gave us:

Lollipops with aluminum foil turned into quaver notes
Pencils with red/blue ribbons

We will get the materials ourselves, so no worries. :D
As of now, we have decided to hold our "souvenir making sessions" on next Tuesday (8 Dec) and Thursday (10 Dec), from 1-4pm. The rooms may not be open, so we will gather at the canteen.
If we need more time, we would probably hold the next sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We're supposed to make 400 souvenirs, but we can do different things, eg. 200 lollipops and 200 ribbons, just the poll to review, and please give your ideas under 'others' :D

Posters

To be done by: All band members
We will be handing out the posters on 22nd and 29th December to all members to stick around school
Please note that you can only stick on BRICK WALLS. DO NOT STICK ON WHITE WALLS.
You can only use blue tack which we would give out as well.
Deadline: Finish before CCA fair

Opening of the band room during the holidays
The band room will be opened from 10am next Monday, 7 Dec. Please message Grace if you are coming on that day.

Other Matters:

Squad Tee

I know that this has been going on for very veryyyyy longgg.
The most number of votes are to the 'Saxophones' design. However, the front(Superman logo) is not very appropriate as we might be infringing the copyright rights and some say it's not original. Thus, we can accept the back, without the instrument picture (too difficult), but not the front.
As a result, the second most number of votes for the front design is to (T)Jia Yi's 'Grey Badge Edition' design, which is yet simple and nice. After we make some changes to the design, if it's to everyone's liking, we could print it soon.
Besides that, we would give the shirts to our SCs too, but we can't include their name in our squad because we won't be having them as our SCs forever, right?
However, we can have another shirt sometime later, depending on the new leaders.
As for the colour, I guess white would be good as we can wear it for band. Also, it matches with the pinafore.
Until the time we confirm it, we will inform all of you.

Practise

As we know ourselves, we all tend to think: the holidays are meant for relaxing.. but if we don't practise and let our standards fall, it's going to be hard picking up what we have learnt over this year. Let's set aside some time to practise every day. If we can spend hours having fun, it's not that difficult afterall. Joining band is a commitment. It's not just attending band practices. All our talents increase in the using, and the every faculty, both good and bad, strengthen by exercise. Let's think of how our seniors achieved the 'Gold with Honours' title. We cannot be selfish to be the ones pulling the band down.
Everything happens for a reason. We learn how to let go when people change. Things go wrong so that we can appreciate them when they're right. Sometimes, good things fall apart so better things can fall together. If life was that easy, where would all the adventures go? Despite all the hardships, hang in there. You never know what you're going to get.

Anyway, it's all up to ourselves.
Last reminder: the road to success is not a path you find but a trail you blaze.

And Can we not have black as the tee colour.
If it was me,
I definitely WILL NOT wear it out to outings,
To put it crudely, because black is heat 'absorbent'.
Sorry to sound harsh but it's the truth.
My class tee is black, and alot of us doesn't like wearing it,
Reason being ?
It's black.
I really love the grey squad,
And I want to LOVE wearing the tee so I do hope the squad leaders will put this into consideration.
Also, black is not that eye-catching.

Swearing-in & Squad Tee

Hello :D

As all of you know, the performance for swearing-in is not confirmed. Since all of you that left early said you won't mind what performance we're doing, I guess all of you won't have any objections.
So, most probably we'll just have a remix of different songs we have learnt. If any of you have any ideas, please share it with us :D
And, this is the important part: Well, since there is no school on Thursday, I expect everyone to come to school from 9-12am to practise for the performance. All of you don't want to embarrass yourselves right? There should not be any excuse, unless there is some sort of exam of lesson, or important personal matters. Details would be given later (soon). Apparently, it should be either held at the spectator's stand, band room, or forum. Of course, we'll get the band room key and music room key to let you all take your instruments. And after we mastered the performance, if you all want to stay back to practise drills and band recruit song, you all can stay, but we can't assure you what time it ends.

Then, for the Squad Tee, we have not yet come to a decision what design all of you want. Most of you vote for both sides of Saxophone's design, the superman one and personalised one. However, we think the the front is sort of 'unoriginal'. So we have discussed, and maybe we'll use one simple design for the front, and the Saxophone's back design or the Trumpet's one, but there would not be the picture of the instrument. The T-shirt should be black, and the front would have a grey splat, and a diagonal text saying 'grey badge edition' I'm really sorry that we have delayed it till the year end, because we have yet come to a decision as to what design all of you want.

FINALLY, I've got the username ans password for this blog.
NOW. I know, it's going to be a longg, boring blog post but deal with me (:
I'm not very happy with the photo taking session that happened this friday(4th sept).
Alot of people probably know that already.
I thank all of you for making the effort to come down earlier to take the photo, what I'm happy about is the fact that all of you came down.

Well, to the people that actually cooperated, a BIG thank you to you.
What I mean by cooperated is:
-came on time
-listened to instructions given out
-carried out instructions quickly
To the people who didn't cooperate, I think that I've done my best to be clear with instructions and all, getting ready a camera, etc.

I'll tell you why I'm not happy.
This is some examples:
-you're TOTALLY late. I know the time's been changed a few times, but the latest timing that we issued out was actually three, and some were late. the most recent timing we needed you guys to reach by was actually two fifty, so I apologise for changing quite a few times. By the looks of it, we actually should've stuck with two forty. Maybe even earlier.

(this applies to almost everyone)-You guys didnt even BOTHER to listen to anything going on. It's really simple, I was going around saying can you please gather around the statue, facing away from it, NICELY. but you guys just STUCK to the spot and continued talking. i went around the second time, saying can you please go more sternly, but you guys still just continued chatting. I had to go around finding people to take the photo for us cause we kept delaying time and everyone is like i goota go already I can't stay and i had to change around 3 times. Evangeline and Dorcas, were also trying quite hard. Is it that hard to move to that area? I dont think so. I had to raise my voice before all of you decided to move. I'm sorry I raised my voice,but you guys FINALLY moved.

-There are reasons why we ask you to squat, stand, half squat and all in a photo.seriously. Do you want our photo to be like, a line? I asked you to squeeze, I guess you guys did, I thank you for that. but the squatting, i specifically asked the people at the back NOT to squat. Your faces are supposed to be there.

Well, I may not have done a good job, you guys are free to tell me what I did wrong/ criticize. Really, go ahead. I will try to improve. Dont worry Im not angry or anything. Anyway, I personally think Dorcas and Evangelina did a good job, kudos to both of you (:

DRILLS! well, I'm happy that most of you are alot louder! I wasn't loud at all at first either, don't worry i know how you guys feel.

Hello :D

Sorry about the delays in the squad photo-taking and voting for t-shirt design. After many weeks of delay, we finally got to take our first ever squad photo :D. Well, it makes me feel accomplished.
Anyways, our squad will be alone for these few weeks, so 加油! Because we're going to face Ms. Sia alone, and Mr. Cher is giving us a review in T4W4, which is pretty soon. It's quite tough, because we missed many practices due to H1N1. For drills, yeah, what Jermaine and Melony said were absolutely right. Sometimes, I get confused too. But just try your best okay?

Okay, I know some of y'all don't really like drills.
& it's fine, really. But I think we should work harder to say our timing louder, lower.
I think we're really disappointing our squad commanders by not lifting our legs to 90º, not saying our timing properly, reacting slowly. I know most of us are doing our best, but the minority isn't working hard enough. I know it's not my position to say anything, but at least I can answer to my conscience. Yes, I shouted to say timing, now my throat really hurts. I'm sure I'm not the only one. There's Jermaine, Joyce, Alicia, Odelia, Charlene, Valery, Kai Yi. Do you think it's fair to them? They try so hard to up the volume, but some of you just take the chance to say your timing softer. They're screaming, & some of you are just whispering, which is really quite unfair. Don't give up so easily. Scream if you have to. When we were with Kialin & Jayme, you heard the Sec 3 squad, you heard SJAB, why can't we be like them? Drills are a squad thing, just a few people could ruin the whole thing. So I really urge you to say timing louder, do your 90º, react faster.

REPOST. IT'S NOT VISIBLE NO MORE hohohohohohooh. Rachel here! i was supposed to make the squad blog with evan and dorcas but i guess i dont need to any more do i? (: anyway we MUST make a squad tee by the end of june. MUST MUST. (optional, highly reccomended): to include a shop address to make the shirts, i have NIL. so if you want a nice shirt please give me a good shop add with reasonable pricing( you have to pay for your own shirt! ) and good quality. : the design , front, back(sleeve is optional but BEST to have) no sequins all that, PLEASE. no bad words( you know what i mean) and all the other obvious things like flashing mechanic words bla bla bla. : please include what colours are for what. PLEASE. shiny blue, baby blue, whatever. im sorry we had to make the one design per section things, but no one would design if i didnt set that! yes you can design more if you have more ideas. please pass the designs to me by 23rd june during band prac. thanks!

IF NOT. there's probably going to be punishments(little fines)!I'm asking for permisssion, so it's not decided at the moment. Well, I'll be reasonable.
